Peppard Lawn Tennis Club is situated in the idyllic Oxfordshire countryside behind the Red Lion Public House at Peppard Common on the road between Sonning Common and Nettlebed. We have six all-weather hard courts with floodlighting for four of the courts and a purpose built club house with changing rooms. We have an extensive coaching programme for all our members whatever the age that includes coaching for Juniors and Adults. The courts are accessible down the path to the left of the Red Lion Public House.
Courts and Floodlights
We have tarmac surfaced courts with a paint based coating that provides a good grip in all weather. Peppard LTC does run a court booking system and whilst it is not mandatory to use the booking system we do recommend that it is used. Members who have used the booking system will be deemed to have priority over Members who have not booked a court. Otherwise the courts are available at all times subject to scheduled events. It is usually possible to find courts available notwithstanding the scheduled events. The courts are well maintained and are cleared of leaf debris each week and as required. Floodlights are available and tokens for the floodlights can be purchased from the the coaching staff Ollie Fry or Andrew Lee. The tokens cost £3.00 for thirty minutes. Note that the floodlights are subject to a planning consideration where they will switch off automatically at 10.00 PM in consideration of the properties neighbouring the club.
Scheduled team sessions include a team training session on a Monday evening (except for peak holiday periods) starting at 7.00 PM for team members who play in the local leagues (Peppard LTC competes in the Berkshire leagues). In addition a team practice session is held on Thursday evening (running alongside the club session). Other scheduled events include League matches that are played (if at home) on Saturdays at 1.00 PM (Summer Leagues), 12.30 PM (Winter Leagues) and Sundays at 10.00 AM (Winter Leagues).
Scheduled club nights are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.30 PM and all members are welcome. The club also runs a Sunday morning session starting at 10.00 AM. Balls are provided and Committee members are usually present to run the sessions. Please note that prospective members are welcome at the club sessions by prior arrangement as it is a good opportunity to meet members of the club and as Committee members are usually present they can provide membership and joining information. Please refer to the Contact page of the website for further information. The format of club sessions varies and depends on how many attend on a given session and we will play limited games if demand is high to ensure that all are able to join in at a session.
Member’s guests are always welcome at the club. An “honours system” is operated and all members are asked to add the names of guests to the guest sheet (on the notice board by the changing rooms). The club rules are that an individual guest may play on four occasions in any membership year, no more than three guests may be invited at any one time and the charge for guests is £5.00 per adult per session and £1.00 per child per session. Fees are collected from members at the membership renewal anniversary each year.
For Juniors extensive term time and holiday coaching camps and courses are available for children from the age of three years in both term time and during the holidays. For Adults, individual and group sessions are available.
All members and guest and asked to wear appropriate clothing, especially footwear whilst on court. Club branded clothing is available in Adult and Children’s sizes.
